Pregnancy, birth, and becoming a parent can bring enormous change to a person’s sense of self. Julia has a particular passion for perinatal mental health and supports clients through prenatal and postpartum concerns, birth trauma, anxiety, mood changes, and the identity shifts that can accompany this stage of life. She understands that experiences commonly portrayed as joyful can also be complicated, overwhelming, or very different from what someone expected.
Beyond her perinatal work, Julia sees teens and adults dealing with trauma, perfectionism, self-esteem, identity, substance use, religious trauma, and other experiences that continue to influence how they see themselves. She is interested in the stories people carry about who they are, where those stories came from, and whether they still reflect the person sitting in the room today.
Julia treats clients as the experts on their own histories. Rather than assuming she knows what an experience meant to someone, she approaches therapy with curiosity and works to understand it within the context of that person’s relationships, identity, values, and lived experience. Trust and transparency are important to her, particularly when working with memories or beliefs that may have been carried for a long time.
As an EMDR-trained clinician, Julia can use EMDR to help clients process distressing experiences and reconsider beliefs connected to them. She also draws from CBT, Narrative Therapy, and Solution-Focused Therapy, pairing deeper emotional work with strategies clients can use in their everyday lives.
