Navigate Social Situations…

Children standing side by side with text reading “navigate social situations,” illustrating learning communication skills, empathy, and confidence when interacting with others.

Helping children navigate social situations takes practice, especially when they are learning how to communicate feelings, resolve conflict, and connect with others.

Communicating effectively is important. Feelings are okay – practice the words to tell another person about being upset.
.
.
Learn how to apologize. Be specific about what the apology is for, and ask, “how can I help you feel better?”
.
.
Accept another person’s perspective – when something goes wrong in communication or an action, think about whether you are filling someone up or taking something away.
.
.
Find another way to engage with others. Instead of waiting for someone to ask you to play (or hangout) – be the person who asks others to join in.
