San Antonio Therapists & Counselors
Meet the Team
Stacey Carlton, M.Ed., LPC
Licensed Professional Counselor
Children do not always have the words to explain what they are feeling, but their emotions often show up in other ways. Changes in behavior, difficulty at school, conflict at home, withdrawal, or intense reactions can all communicate something important. Stacey specializes in working with children and adolescents and uses play, creativity, and developmentally appropriate therapy to understand what may be happening beneath the surface.
For Stacey, helping a child often means involving the people who care for them. She incorporates caregivers into the therapeutic process when appropriate, using interactive family sessions to strengthen connection, improve emotional regulation, and help families create a greater sense of stability at home. Rather than viewing a child’s concerns in isolation, she considers relationships, developmental history, environment, and family dynamics as part of the larger picture.
Her clinical work addresses concerns including ADHD, anxiety, mood difficulties, trauma, self-esteem, identity, academic stress, divorce, and other changes within the family. Stacey draws from CBT, ACT, psychodynamic approaches, play therapy, and solution-focused techniques, selecting interventions based on the child or family rather than relying on a single method.
Stacey’s experience extends beyond child and adolescent therapy. She also facilitates therapy groups, provides solution-focused counseling for adults, and works with couples using Gottman-informed principles. Across these different settings, connection, creativity, and a sense of safety remain important parts of how she practices.
