Counseling for Teens
Is The Pressure You’re Under Is Too Much Too Bear?
Are you feeling overwhelmed by the pressures of daily life? Is ongoing drama with family or friends causing constant anxiety? Or are you a parent worried about your teen as they transition from childhood into adulthood?
Maybe you're a teenager struggling to balance schoolwork, social life, extracurricular activities, and family obligations. Perhaps you’re feeling isolated at school or dealing with unexplained sadness that prevents you from feeling happy.
Or, as a parent, you might be noticing your teen's grades slipping, withdrawing from friends, or acting in ways you don’t fully understand. Maybe they handle some things well but seem to struggle in other areas, leaving you unsure how to help.
Whether you’re a teen in need of extra support or a parent concerned about your child, Monarch Behavioral Health offers compassionate counseling services that provide coping strategies, parenting tips, and a safe, non-judgmental environment to foster growth and understanding.
Reasons Why You Might Consider Counseling
Counseling may not be the first solution that comes to mind, but there are many reasons teens might seek the help of a licensed therapist. These can include:
Anxiety
Depression
Self-harm or suicidal thoughts
Trauma and PTSD
Grief and loss
Behavioral concerns
Family conflicts
Self-esteem issues
Bullying
Peer pressure
Identity concerns (gender or sexuality)
Alcohol or substance abuse
Disordered eating
At Monarch Behavioral Health, our experienced therapists are skilled at helping teens navigate these challenges, addressing the pain of the past, and creating a path forward.
Navigating Self-Discovery During the Teenage Years
The teen years are a time of significant self-discovery. This can be especially difficult for those dealing with complex issues like gender identity, sexuality, or religious beliefs that may clash with their family’s expectations.
While it may feel isolating, mental health struggles are common during adolescence. According to research, 1 in 6 teens have a mental health disorder. If you're dealing with anxiety, depression, or any other challenges, therapy can help you build the confidence to lead an authentic life.
Pressures Facing Today’s Teens
Teens often feel immense pressure to excel in school, perform well in sports, and have their futures planned out. Social pressure to fit in or engage in risky behaviors can also lead to stress and anxiety. It's no surprise that so many teens face mental health struggles, including depression and anxiety disorders.
Therapy can equip teens with the tools to manage stress, find their footing, and improve their emotional well-being.
Counseling Can Support You Through The Ups And Downs Of The Teen Years
We know that adolescence can be overwhelming, and our therapists are here to provide support. Having been teenagers ourselves, we understand the challenges and are committed to helping you or your teen live their best life.
We also recognize that talking to a therapist about sensitive topics may feel intimidating at first. That’s why we approach each session with compassion and patience, allowing you to open up at your own pace. Our goal is to help you find clarity and confidence so you can navigate these years with greater ease.
What To Expect from Teen Counseling
When you begin therapy with Monarch Behavioral Health, we’ll start by getting to know you in a relaxed, open environment. Building a trusting relationship is our priority so that you feel comfortable discussing the issues you're facing.
For parents unsure of the next steps, we also offer comprehensive psychological testing to better understand your child’s mental health or educational needs.
Counseling provides a safe space for teens to explore their concerns and find new coping strategies to help them thrive socially, academically, and emotionally.
Therapy Individualized For Your Needs
At Monarch Behavioral Health, we understand that every teen is unique. We don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. Instead, we listen to your specific concerns, explore your past to identify contributing factors, and offer customized tools and strategies to help you overcome the challenges you're facing.
Our goal is to equip you with the coping skills you need to face life head-on with confidence.
But You May Still Have Concerns About Counseling For Teens…
Will what I say to my therapist be kept confidential?
Yes. Confidentiality is essential to therapy. What you discuss in sessions will remain private unless your therapist feels you are a danger to yourself or others. Even then, we share information only to ensure you receive the support you need.
As a parent, how will I stay informed about my teen’s progress?
While your teen’s therapy sessions are confidential, we involve parents throughout the process. During the intake session, we’ll discuss your concerns, and if any safety issues arise, we will keep you informed. We will also meet with you periodically to review progress and check in on how things are going at home.
Do I have to come to an office for therapy?
Not necessarily. We offer both in-person therapy sessions in San Antonio and convenient telehealth sessions if you prefer to receive counseling from the comfort of your home.
