Our team of therapists aims to provide the best care to each client that we see at Monarch Behavioral Health.  We believe that the client’s evaluation and treatment plan should be unique. Our services are individualized and provided by professionals with extensive training and experience. Each clinician has a unique style and set of skills they bring into the room. It is important that you feel safe and connected with your therapist!

Dr. Amanda Sharp, Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Sharp is the founder and owner of Monarch Behavioral Health, PLLC. She earned her Doctorate in Psychology in 2018. She has advanced training in psychological evaluation and various forms of therapeutic modalities.

Dr. Sharp has been conducting assessments providing psychological testing and providing treatment recommendations for individuals of all ages since 2015. She has provided psychological services and counseling to individuals and agencies across Texas. This includes psychological services to children in substitute care. While earning her Master’s and Doctorate degrees, Dr. Sharp provided counseling and volunteer services at the Rape Crisis Center. Her passion is providing children, adolescents, adults, and families with resources to thrive and grow.

Dr. Sharp has two elementary school-aged children. She has lived in San Antonio for more than 15 years and is passionate about serving the community. She enjoys spending time with her children, traveling, and cooking.

Aimee Fuentez, MS in Psychology, LMFT, Pre-Doctoral Fellow

Aimee has her Masters's degree in Psychology with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy from Our Lady of the Lake University. She is currently working on obtaining her Doctorate (PsyD) in Counseling Psychology.

She has experience working with children/adolescents, families, and couples. She also spent one year working with survivors of domestic abuse. Her experience has primarily been working with children and families involving topics around anxiety, depression, suicidal ideation, problems at school, coping skills, and family conflicts. Aimee is trained in Solution-Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Collaborative Therapy.

Aimee is skilled at providing therapy for the LGBTQ+ population. She is also skilled in offering support for gender identity concerns, individuals on the autism spectrum, ADHD, marital/couple conflicts, depression, grief, anxiety, bipolar disorder, self-harm, suicidal ideation, self-esteem troubles, and everyday stressors. She takes a non-judgmental stance in counseling. Aimee believes that everyone has their own set of strengths even when dealing with difficult life stressors. She strives to provide a safe and comfortable space. With Aimee, clients can openly communicate their thoughts and find the tools they need to keep moving forward.

Dr. Zayna Achmar, Psy.D., Clinical Psychology, PLP

Dr. Zayna Achmar earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois. She is a postdoctoral fellow earning her hours toward licensure in the state of Texas as a psychologist. She has been helping children, adolescents, and adults of all backgrounds since 2014. Dr. Achmar’s approach cultivates a genuine relationship with clients. This serves as the foundation for growth, healing, and self-understanding. In the end, she wants to support clients as they explore the challenges they’re having and how they've been influenced by past experiences and relationships.

Dr. Achmar specializes in women’s health problems as they relate to mental health. This includes infertility/reproductive health, perinatal care, postpartum depression/anxiety, grief and loss of a child, transition to parenthood, and gender disparities. She is a multiracial clinician and believes it is important to respect people of all identities and cultures. Thus, she tailors treatment for each individual client with sensitivity.

Outside of clinical practice, Dr. Achmar is a wife and a mother of a toddler. She is a San Antonio native but lived in Chicago for the past 9 years. She returned to Texas to be closer to family. She enjoys traveling, connecting with other moms, reading, and spending time with her daughter.

Juliana Guadamuz, MS, LPC


Licensed Professional Counselor

Juliana has a master’s degree in Counseling from Texas A&M San Antonio (2017). She is a Licensed Professional Counselor. During her internship in the master’s program, she worked with adults who are attempting to regain custody of their children. She helped them transition into their new normal once they have their children back in their care. Previously, she worked in a residential program for kids who have been removed from their parents and endured trauma, abuse, and neglect. Juliana has spent the last four years working with children who have suffered from trauma, anxiety, and depression. Juliana has experience working with children ages 12 and up and adults of all ages.

Juliana’s therapeutic style involves helping clients tap into the strengths, strategies, and tools they already possess. By doing so, they can begin to make positive changes and raise awareness. Juliana strives to guide you, encourage you, and provide a safe environment to share your thoughts and feelings. 

Juliana is passionate about advocating the importance of mental health and ways to cope during difficult times. She enjoys spending time with her dog Kobe, traveling, and cooking.

Eric Tran, MS, LPC


Licensed Professional Counselor

Eric is a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the UTSA (2017). Eric understands that change is inevitable and counseling is one way to deal with change, especially for people who feel stuck or in a repeating cycle. He believes that everyone’s journey is unique and provides an environment for clients to feel safe to heal or grow. Eric strives for the work to be comfortable yet challenging to cultivate change, including taking into account any unique cultural values and beliefs, so the process is meaningful, rather than sounding like it comes out of a book. Eric’s therapeutic style focuses on building and maintaining relationships through effective communication, including the relationship with the self. He will meet you where you are at and build off of your existing strengths and values, including establishing or fostering social support to encourage and reinforce growth.

Eric has worked with young persons and adults managing anxiety, coping with depression, balancing life’s stressors (including transitions), and struggling with self-identity. Eric enjoys working with people from various socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds. His experience also includes working with victims/survivors of domestic violence to help them regain trust and confidence in themselves and others through reestablishing control within their lives and setting healthy boundaries. Eric uses this experience to address perceived inequality or lack of control in relationships. 

Eric believes in the value of balancing being a "responsible" adult with taking care of himself. He plays Fortnite, plays tennis, and enjoys baking, even though he is not very good at any of those things.

Ashleigh Jewett, MSW, LMSW

Ashleigh has her Master’s degree in Social Work with a Clinicial concentration from Baylor University. She has experience working with clients throughout all stages of life working through negative self-image, grief, ADHD, most conduct disorders, Bipolar Disorder, trauma, depression, and anxiety. Ashleigh utilizes mindfulness, strengths-based therapy, solution-focused therapy, trauma-informed therapies, sand tray, art therapy, and play therapy techniques to fit the needs of her clients. Ashleigh uses these approaches to help equip clients with tools that can be used towards easing their daily challenges and improving interpersonal relationships.

Chelsea Frisbie, MS, LPC, NCC


Licensed Professional Counselor

Chelsea has a master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas State University (2021). She is a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. Chelsea has experience working with adolescents and parents in a program called Communities in Schools in which she provided therapeutic services to students and resources and tips for parents. She has experience working with a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds, as well as, LGBT+ youth, adjustment and anxiety disorders, and major depressive disorders. Chelsea has also provided counseling services as an adult and adolescent therapist in residential treatment centers, gaining experience in helping those with intrusive thoughts and self harm.

Chelsea's therapeutic style blends cognitive behavioral therapy with client centered therapy. Focusing on the therapeutic relationship, and trauma informed care while identifying and challenging maladaptive thoughts and behaviors. It is important to Chelsea to meet each client where they are at, both in life and in their therapeutic journey, and to take the time to understand each person's goals and values and to grow towards them together. Chelsea also takes a strengths based approach to therapy, and considers any unique cultural values and beliefs, helping clients discover the tools and abilities inside themself, fostering an environment of discovery and autonomy.

Chelsea is a Texas native, born and raised in San Antonio. She was a thirteen year athlete in volleyball and powerlifting. She understands the struggles and pressures of being a student athlete at any level, as well as the importance of self care, boundaries and maintaining a positive mindset.

Bonnie is a Veteran (Combat Veteran), who served 12 years in the US Navy. She has a masters degree in Social Work, specializing in Mental Health from the University of Washington.  She is a Certified Trauma Professional (CTP). 

Bonnie is well versed in mental health and substance abuse giving her the experience to work in dual diagnosis environment. Her experience is trauma informed and diverse, and includes working with Veterans, children/adolescents, school settings, families and couples, as well as with the courts as a Liaison and an evaluator. Her areas of specialty include working with Veterans, adults, and adolescents with complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Her ideal clients are those that have faced emotional , situational, and other traumatic or distressing events and helping them navigate these experiences through healing and, when desired, with the aid of Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, or EMDR. Bonnie enjoys family time, watching soccer and football, swimming, BBQ, playing pool, and corn hole.  Loves to cook and do some baking.  She has three dogs, two Goldendoodles, (one a service dog) and a shih tzu. She enjoy working with people and helping them implement new strategies in their everyday life.

Diandra Palacio, MS, LCDC, LPC, MT-BC

Diandra Palacio obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Music, with a major in Music Therapy and minor in Psychology, from the University of the Incarnate Word (2018). Diandra achieved her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at San Antonio (2022) following clinical experience in music therapy and remaining in good standing. She is a Licensed Professional Counseling Associate, National Certified Counselor, and Music Therapist Board Certified. Diandra is passionate about bringing creativity and new perspectives into sessions with her clients, along with patience and understanding to encourage communication. She is passionate about mental health advocacy and appreciates a psychoeducational approach as needed. She brings with her a humanistic lens of treatment, putting client first. Diandra has prior experience in career counseling. She also has experience working with the Center for Health Care Services, San Antonio State Hospital, Sarabia Family Counseling Center, among other placements where she helped clients reach a wide variety of goals.

Diandra utilizes music in her own free time as a way of relaxation, including singing and guitar. She also loves spending time with family and friends. She often goes to the movie theater and enjoys catching the newest releases when possible or is home watching Anime. Diandra appreciates a hot bowl of ramen, Chinese food, and baking. She is excited to learn more from her clients and build rapport, actively listening about varied topics brought in.

Bianca Trujilio

Bianca is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-A). She attended Our Lady of the Lake University, earning a Masters degree in Psychology specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is currently pursuing her Doctorate (PsyD) in Counseling Psychology.

Bianca has experience with children, adolescents, couples, and individuals. She has a background in working with depression, trauma, and anxiety. Bianca utilizes strength-based interventions and takes a postmodern approach to counseling, which includes Narrative, Solution-Focused, and Collaborative Therapy. Bianca also takes a Person-Centered approach to counseling. She is passionate about supporting your healing and growth while embracing and honoring the diverse backgrounds and experiences that have shaped your journey. Her goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where her clients feel welcomed.

Balance is essential to Bianca! When she is not working or at school, she enjoys spending time with loved ones, cycling, cooking or baking, and traveling.

Janelle graduated from Fresno Pacific Biblical Seminary in 2021 with a Master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Associate and a Licensed Chemical Dependency Intern. Janelle enjoys working with young adults and adults from a variety of cultural and socio-economic backgrounds and is an ally for LGBTQIA+ individuals. 

She has worked in community mental health care, which gave her experience in crisis management, and clients struggling with adjustment and anxiety disorders, mood disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, suicidal ideation, and self-harm. Janelle is also experienced working with individuals in early substance abuse recovery.

Janelle’s therapeutic style is a blend of person-centered and poly-vagal therapy. She believes that it is important to meet the client where they are, and feels that creating and maintaining a safe, non-judgmental space for the client is vital as they navigate life struggles, grief, relationship conflicts, trauma, and everyday life stressors.

Community is incredibly important to Janelle! When she is not working, Janelle enjoys spending time with her partner, friends, and family. She also enjoys reading, kayaking, going to museums, and crocheting.

Laura Robinson, MS, LCSW

Laura has her Master's degree in Social Work from New York University. She has experience working with children and adolescents struggling with depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, and school and behavioral needs. Laura uses an integrative approach to therapy pulling from different treatment modalities, including strengths-based therapy, mindfulness, play therapy, and solution-focused therapy to best fit the needs of her clients. Laura believes that therapy is most successful when built on a trusting and collaborative relationship. Her main goal is to help clients feel supported and connected, building upon each client's unique strengths while also developing coping strategies to manage life's stressors.

Brittany Sanchez, MS, LPC - Associate, NCC

Brittany is a Licensed Professional Counselor- Associate and National Certified Counselor. She received her Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from The University of Texas at San Antonio. During her clinical internships, Brittany was part of the Sarabia Family Counseling Center. She has worked with a range of individuals, including adults and adolescents from diverse backgrounds. Since a young age, Brittany has had a strong desire to help and support others. Her personal life experiences have shaped her into the professional she is today, and she hopes to pass on the tools and skills she has gained to others and her community.

Brittany’s ideal clients would be those working through symptoms of anxiety, stress management, self-esteem and body image concerns, lifestyle adjustments, and overall gaining healthy coping skills to help them navigate various life challenges.

Her therapeutic approach comes from a humanistic, strength-based, and client-centered perspective. She also incorporates cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavioral (DBT), solution-focused, and motivational therapy techniques. However, she will tailor her approach to fit the unique needs of each client and provide them with the best care.

Brittany values creating a safe and welcoming environment for each client. She believes in the importance of being genuine and compassionate, which helps to establish a strong therapeutic relationship. She will meet each client where they are in life and provide support so they reach the path they want to be. She will help each client highlight and identify their strengths and provide encouragement, while collaborating to create an action plan and set achievable goals.

Outside of counseling, family is everything to Brittany, so she loves spending time with them whenever possible! She has one dog, named Yogi, and he is her pride and joy in life! She loves to cook and learn about new recipes on Pinterest. In her free time, Brittany enjoys going to coffee shops and trying out new restaurants in the San Antonio area.

Kara Gaines, MS, LCSW

Kara is a Veteran (Combat Veteran), who served 8 years in the US Air Force. She has a masters degree in Social Work from University of Texas at San Antonio.  Kara believes in a strengths perspective and a client-centered approach, and she is trained in several therapeutic modalities including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Processing Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy, or EMDR, and Motivational Interviewing. Kara is also trained in Illness Management and Recovery for those with severe mental illness.

Kara has experience working with clients in a behavioral health hospital, throughout all stages of life working through negative self-image, grief, ADHD, most conduct disorders, Bipolar Disorder, trauma, depression, and anxiety. Kara also has a passion for working with members of the LGBTQ+ community. Her areas of specialty include working with complex trauma, depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation. Her ideal clients include those that have faced emotional, situational, and other traumatic or distressing events and helping them navigate these experiences through healing and, when desired, with the aid of EMDR. Alyssa Latham, M.A., BCBA, LBA


Behavior Consultant

Alyssa has her master's degree in Education with an emphasis in applied behavior analysis from The University of Texas at San Antonio (2015). She is a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (2016) and Licensed Behavior Analyst (2018).

Alyssa enjoys supporting children, adolescents, and young adults ages 18 months to 21 years to reach their potential with

  • emotional regulation (identifying body sensations, labeling emotions, healthy coping strategies, etc.),

  • communication (expressing wants and needs, responding to others, etc.),

  • social (shared enjoyment, self-advocacy, initiating and/or responding to others, etc.),

  • executive functioning (impulse control, planning, problem solving, flexible thinking, etc.),

  • while reducing behavioral challenges that interfere in daily life.

Alyssa is passionate about parent education and incorporating goals that are important to the whole family unit. In-person sessions for ages 1-12 will typically be play-based, child-led, and incorporate naturalistic teaching as we include the child's interests and expand on their strengths. For ages 13-21, in-person sessions will typically be loosely structured, depending on the individual's goals and needs. Remote sessions will typically focus on parenting education and support to implement strategies discussed. Alyssa is experienced with supporting individuals with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, and ADHD and prioritizes creating an open and inviting space for individuals to remain their authentic self. Karen is a Latinx Licensed Professional Counselor, fluent in Spanish and English. She earned her undergraduate degree in Psychology and her master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from the University of Texas at El Paso. She is currently completing her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at California Southern University.

 Karen has worked with youth and families in the counseling field since 2017 and has worked in both community mental health and private practice settings. Some of her specialties include: Trauma, Depression, Anxiety, Emotion Regulation, Parenting Skills, Identity Issues. She is certified in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Depression and Anxiety, Trauma-Focused CBT, and has training in Dialectical Behavioral Training and Play Therapy.

Karen is passionate about working with individuals who come from diverse walks of life.  She primarily works with youth, ages 10-18, and young adults, ages 18-26. She uses a trauma-informed, strength-based, and holistic approach to therapy with her clients that addresses the whole person. She believes that every individual is doing the best that they can with what they have in the moment, and strives to offer everyone a safe space to feel, heal, and grow into the person they wish to be.

Ryan Ybarra

Ryan is a Graduate Student in Counseling at St. Mary’s University and completing his clinical experience for his Master of Arts degree.  Ryan is a retired U.S. Marine and was fortunate to travel extensively during his 23 years of service.  His faith and worldwide service provided him with a unique perspective which guides his pursuit for empathic care.  He is a single father to a teenage daughter and adult son.  In his personal time, Ryan loves to discover new San Antonio adventures and small business delicacies.

Ana is a Bilingual Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Associate (LMFT-A). She attended Our Lady of the Lake University, earning a Masters degree in Psychology specializing in Marriage and Family Therapy. 

Ana has experience working with children, adolescents, couples, and individuals ages 5 and up; she also provides services in Spanish. She specializes in support clients with grief/bereavement processing, challenging behaviors, family systems issues, and anxiety related difficulties. ,

With a background rooted in strength-based approaches, Ana is committed to empowering her clients to discover resilience and healing within themselves. Drawing from a diverse toolkit of therapeutic modalities, Ana tailors her approach to meet the individual needs of each client. By fostering a safe and nonjudgmental space, she invites individuals to explore their emotions with honesty and vulnerability..

In her free time, Ana enjoys baking yummy treats, going to a book-club, and taking long walks.

Makenna Hanssen, M.S., Psychometrist


Masters of Science in Clinical Psychology

Makenna earned her Bachelor of Science from Angelo State University (2021) and her Master of Science in Clinical Psychology from Texas A&M University - Commerce (2023). She is currently working towards becoming a Licensed Psychological Associate in the state of Texas.

Makenna has experienced working with children, adolescents, and adults in an inpatient hospital setting providing individual and group therapy and psychological assessments. She also has experience working with college students of all ages through her masters program’s psychology clinic. Makenna’s focus is psychological testing and assessment for individuals of all ages. She is passionate about having the opportunity to provide clients with a more detailed picture of their concerns through assessments and treatment recommendations.

Outside of clinical practice, Makenna spends her time coaching club volleyball, reading, and browsing antique shops. She is a San Antonio native and has recently returned after 6 years of pursuing her degrees and playing collegiate volleyball. She is excited to be back home, in San Antonio, and spending time with her family.
