Provisionally Licensed Psychologist
Supervised by Dr. Amanda Sharp, Ph.D, Licensed Psychologist
Dr. Achmar earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Psy.D) from Adler University in Chicago, Illinois. She practices using several evidence-based, foundational therapeutic approaches; although Dr. Achmar relies on psychodynamic and acceptance-commitment therapy (ACT) models to guide treatment. A typical client of hers is one who is experiencing symptoms of depression, anxiety, significant relationship problems, grief and loss, and/or in need of trauma healing. Dr. Achmar works with adults ages 30 and older of all genders. She has specialty training in the areas of perinatal care, infertility, loss of unborn baby, parenting related issues, and pain and chronic medical health illnesses.
There are times in our lives that can feel unmanageable, overwhelming, and sometimes even unbearable. Whatever brought you to seek treatment, Dr. Achmar can meet you where you are with empathy and compassion. She believes through building rapport and developing a relationship with her, a collaborative approach will allow space for a deeper understanding of the problems that not only result in poor mental health but ultimately get in the way of living life with purpose and meaning. Dr. Achmar will learn how your early relationships and experiences have shaped your personality, attachment style, self-concept and beliefs. Many times, life traumas play a significant role in our mental health and life experiences. Dr. Achmar supports her clients who are processing trauma with the upmost care and respect. Whether this may be your first time sharing or ongoing discussion, she works to establish a physical and emotionally safe space to discuss some of the most painful events in your life. When was the last time you felt love for yourself, flawed and all? This is her hope for her clients.
Dr. Achmar believes there is a great need to support women during their pregnancy and postpartum journeys. Pregnancy can be such an all-encompassing experience affecting the mind and body, all while trying to maintain relationships, form your identity as a parent, develop a healthy bond with your baby, adjusting your lifestyle to meet yours and your baby’s needs, and/or preparing for working after having a baby. Secondary or following pregnancies can be just as challenging, especially, when navigating life’s obstacles while raising other children.
On a personal level, Dr. Achmar is a Texan native who received all of her education and most of her training in Chicago. She loved exploring all things Chicago (and misses a good Italian beef sandwich)! She is married and has two young children. When not spending time with her family and friends, Dr. Achmar enjoys attending church, reading, watching reality TV (her guilty pleasure) or a good series, decorating and re-organizing her home, and traveling to new places.
