Play Therapy Techniques
In play therapy, there are a million different ways to participate. Session length and frequency will depend on the individual and how well they respond to this type of therapy.
Play therapy can be directive or nondirective. Directive play therapy tends to be more structured. Specific toys or games may be chosen, and the therapist will guide the individual with a specific goal in mind.
Nondirective therapy on the other hand is less structured. The individual is allowed to choose their own toys or games and the session opens with little to no direction. The therapist simply observes.
With either technique, the following tools may be involved: story-telling, role-playing, arts and crafts, musical instruments, world- building, water or sand play, dance or creative movement.
