Self-Soothing With Senses

Self-soothing is something that anyone can learn to do. You can use sensory activities to help you or your child self-soothe. A sensory or self-soothing activity is any activity that helps to calm or relieve you of some of your distress.

The 5 senses (sight, hearing, taste, smell, touch) can be used for this purpose.

  • Sight- Go on a walk where you can observe views.

  • Hearing- Listen to something soothing, like music or nature.

  • Touch- Play with the fabric of something soothing, like a blanket or your clothing.

  • Taste- Grab a healthy snack!

  • Smell- Spray or mist a calming scent on your clothes or bed

What is your or your child’s favorite self soothing activity?
