Strategies to optimize the moment

Sometimes parents are not in the position (literally & figuratively) to catch every AMAZING thing your child does, most important is that you love, nurture, encourage, and support your child.

Having trouble shifting gears from work to home life? YOU ARE HUMAN! Try an audio book on the drive home or three minute meditation in the drive way before walking inside to reset. Apps like headspace, clam, or stop, breath, & think can help you relieve some of the overwhelmed-ness before you walk through the door… help you to live in the moment & extract the positive emotions from the moment.

Time is all your child needs & this does not mean endless hours of (insert activity here), it could mean a quick favorite game, or helping your child with their homework. Mundane is okay – routine helps us feel comfortable & safe.

Disconnect from your device (work, social, etc.), they get in the way, model good behavior with devices, and respond and be present with your child, without the device in tow. Create a memory that you can recall without having to reference a “post” “pic” or “snap chat”

Tune in to touch! From a child’s birth, we are taught that skin to skin contact is SO beneficial. A touch from a loved one can reduce anxiety, stress, and help your heart rate & brain waves synch! Hug and cuddle your children of all ages, it can help you bond on a physiological level.

Having trouble with bonding with your child? We can help – parent coaching, counseling, and family therapy services.
