PTSD Symptoms In Women

While PTSD is something that can develop in anyone, statistics show that there is a significant gender difference in the prevalence. According to the American Psychological Association, “women are twice as likely to develop PTSD, experience a longer duration of posttraumatic symptoms and display more sensitivity to stimuli that remind them of the trauma.  With PTSD, it’s not only that the person is remembering that painful event, the body responds as if it’s happening again.

Deep breathing, mindfulness exercises, and progressive muscle relaxation (which focuses on alternating between tensing and relaxing different muscle groups throughout the body) are some calming techniques that can help a person cope with PTSD related anxiety.

If you recognize any of these symptoms in yourself or believe you are struggling with PTSD, we can help.
