World Autism Awareness Day

Today is World Autism Awareness Day! Each year on April 2nd, World Autism Awareness Day is celebrated to encourage member states of the United Nations to take measures to raise awareness about people with autistic spectrum disorders including autism and Asperger syndrome throughout the world.

So what is autism exactly? Autism is a complex, lifelong developmental difference that typically presents during early childhood and can impact a person’s social skills, communication, relationships, and self-regulation. Autism will look different in each individual; everyone has different struggles, and strengths.

Early diagnosis helps a person receive the support and services that they need, which can lead to a quality life filled with opportunity.  However, we have seen an increasing number of individuals that are diagnosed in their teens, and early and late adulthood.

If you or your child has autism or suspect autism spectrum disorder, and are looking to understand more about autism, we can help.
