Distance Learning Tips
Distance Learning or Home Learning… where do we start?!?⠀
⠀
Routine is first and foremost. Create a loose schedule for your family. This could be a slightly different schedule for younger children versus older children. ⠀
⠀
Avoid all or nothing thinking. Maybe you schedule a 2 - 3 subjects per day for 30 mins to 1 hour each (depending on the age of the child) – as long as those subjects are completed by the time school is over – success! With multiple children there are joint and separate learning options. ⠀
⠀
Incorporate exercise, music, art, and time for fun. My kids have really enjoyed yoga this summer. It is SO hot in Texas, we use to yoga mats in the living room and have found various yoga activities for kids (the whole family) on you tube kids (Disney themed, etc.). We have painted rocks and signed up for @kiwico_inc boxes to have new craft ideas.⠀
⠀
Connect with other families – distancing outside with other families with a picnic or a drive by parade.⠀
⠀
Create a break space for you and your children. Parents need a break too! Create a space in your home that is just for parents while kids have their spaces. It can be a shady spot outside or a soft, cozy inside space. Put your favorite scents, touches, or visuals (books, magazines, journal to write or draw) in this space.⠀
⠀
Overall, soften expectations and accept the small wins. Be kind to yourself!⠀
